The Cross is the most enduring of Christianity’s symbols. The symbolism of the cross is brought forth powerfully in the accompanying text from Paul’s Epistle to Philemon, which recalls the impact of the presence of Jesus in all relationships.
The designs for the cross of Jesus are many and varied. Some of these variations are artistic, others relate to or express the beliefs of the Christian denominations that have adopted them and by which they have become known. But all Christians share the beliefs about Jesus on the cross, beliefs that Paul set out in the Epistle to Philemon which we have incorporated into this pendant. In this short and personal missive, in which Paul attempts to persuade Philemon to take back his slave, Onesimus, who has converted to Christianity, the Apostle says Jesus was "obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross." The combination of this passage and the cross in this pendent will show to all not only the wearer’s faith as a Christian, but also the hope that this faith will allow wearers to "shine as lights to the world" (Phil. 2:15).
